More parishes added to disaster declaration for jobless benefits

Individuals living or working in the parishes of Acadia, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Mary, Allen, Lafourche and Terrebonne are now eligible to file for Disaster Unemployment Assistance, the Louisiana Department of Labor announced today.

Those parishes join Cameron, Calcasieu, Beauregard, Vermilion and Jefferson Davis as areas the federal government has included in a declaration allowing Hurricane Rita victims to file for disaster unemployment benefits.

The deadline to file for DUA has been extended to November 30. To receive DUA benefits, individuals must provide the following:
1. Social Security Number;
2. Proof of wages; and
3. Proof of employment, including the name and address of the last employer.
4. Self-employed individuals must provide their business and financial records, including federal
income tax returns for the most recent tax year.

Claims may be filed several ways:
1. In person at any LDOL One Stop or job center;
2. Online at (http://www.laworks.net); or
3. By calling 1-800-430-8076 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week.

DUA provides financial assistance to individuals whose employment or self-employment has been lost or interrupted as a direct result of a major disaster declared by the President of the United States.
