Council on Aging - The Councils on Aging in all the parishes of the state that were declared a disaster area from Katrina or Rita have funds available through a grant from GOEA. These funds are for "Gap Filling Services" and are for individuals 60 years and older affected by one of the hurricanes. The funds can be used to pay for anything that FEMA or insurance has not paid for. Some examples that were given were respite, small home modifications, and hot meals. The funds must be spent by December 31, 2005. Individuals apply at their local Council on Aging.
